I took my dog for a run the other day for the first time in months. Ten miles didn’t seem like a bad distance to hit… Her and I have done many 10 mile runs before, I thought to myself. “Ehh, she’ll live” I shrugged, and off we went. The little ball of fur didn’t know what she was in for. Ears back, head up, she led the way as we ran down the trail. Little by little the energy faded and she slowed. We got 3 miles in before she slowed stopped and looked at me like she needed a break. I poured her some water and realized it was best to head back home. I ended up having to pull her for an entire mile, there was no way I was going to carry her.
Our lives are the same way. Sometimes we set our goals without planning how we are going to reach them. If there’s no realistic way to reach a goal, then it isn’t a goal. Instead, it’s a dream. There is nothing wrong with dreaming but we have to set realistic goals if we want to get better. Dreams are the motivation to reach our goals, there’s no way to do it all at once. We must crawl before we can walk, and walk before we can run. Step by step, one foot after the other.
It starts with the little things. I mean you wouldn’t do a marathon without training…. Right? Well unless you want to torture yourself. My dog wouldn’t have made it if I pushed her too far. Yes, we need a little push to start the ride… but too big of a push would force us in the wrong direction. Don’t overwhelm yourself with things to do, just take 1 step to get better today and tomorrow you will be surprised how much can change. Just the Simple things for now, the rest will come.
He who’s is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. – Luke 16:10
